Sanctuary Within: Finding Your Feet

Day 6 ~Proprioception for Presence

Today’s practice incorporates “proprioception” — our ability to sense our body in time, space and place. Engaging our different sensory systems, with our proprioceptive system being one of them, helps bring embodied awareness to the moment so we can sense, feel, and notice what is present “beneath the neck.”

Often we exist from the neck up — lost in thoughts and rumination — and so it takes coming back into the body to step out of the loop and into what is happening RIGHT NOW. This way of grounding and arriving back within oneself may feel silly or simple, and that’s okay. It is a reminder that as much as we have evolved as humans, we are beautifully basic creatures — and connecting to what literally holds us up (our feet) can be incredibly grounding, stabilizing, and anchoring us fully into the present moment.

Write what you notice from this practice, as well as what you notice throughout your day/time after the practice, do you “feel” more of your feet as you are in your daily flow? By increasing body awareness through this practice, we are reshaping and strengthening our sensory system to facilitates mind-body communication :), which brings safety and support into our moment to moment experience.
